How to fold a fitted sheet for beginners

Have you ever wondered how fitted sheets are folded so perfectly in the package?

There are a lot of videos on how to fold a fitted sheet.

But every video I found was confusing.

Confusing thing 1: the folding is done standing up.

All the corners and longwise-widthwise stuff is a lot to keep track of. 

It's much easier to fold a fitted sheet on a flat surface.

Confusing thing 2: one important detailed is never revealed.

You need to get the sheet into a rectangle shape. After that it's easy.

Let's get folding!

The step-by-step: how to fold a fitted sheet into a square shape

Steps 1 - 4: fold the fitted sheet into a rectangle.

Steps 5 - 8: continue folding to desired size and sheet crispness.

1. Lay the sheet face down on a flat surface, sleeping side face-down.

2. Fold Side 1 & Side 2 corners over. Seams are inside the corners.

3. Turn Side 2, Corner 4 inside out, so you can see the seam.

4. Turn Side 2, Corner 3 inside out as well.

Smooth down Side 2.

5. Move Side 2 corners inside Side 1 corners.

The fitted sheet is now in a rectangle shape.

From here it's easy.

6. Fold one length side half way across the full width.

7. Fold again.

8. Continue folding to the desired rectangle size and crispness.

That's it! We're done folding.

Now, there's one finishing touch I need to share with you.

How to make sure your folded sheet stays folded

One way to make sure the folding remains intact is to put the sheet set into one of the pillow cases.

For me, that ruins the crisp look & feel that I want for my linen closet.

Another way is to tie a bow around the sheet set.

Lovely look & feel, but it's too much work.

Here's a final way, and my personal favourite.

It's on the DIY side, but it's super simple and delivers a crisp look & feel.

Secure each folded sheet with a large clip such as large binder clip.
